UpLift: Intact data storage of Stories of Space for moon mission

spaceUpLift|

Challenge

UpLift needed a secure, non-destructible data storage medium that was small enough and could withstand the pressures and atmospheric conditions of a rocket launch, orbit and lunar landing for their participation in AstroLab’s FLEX Lunar Innovation Platform as part of Astrobotic’s Griffin Mission One, launching July 2026.

Solution

Working with SPhotonix and having seen how 5D Memory Crystal™ technology worked for previous missions, UpLift brought together over 3,000+ messages from Moon Mission students and from the Institute of Noetic Sciences, Global Consciousness Project 2.0, and Space for Humanity. The data size was assessed alongside the space allowed on the FLIP.

Outcome

A 2.5 cm diameter, 2 mm thickness round 5D Memory Crystal™ was selected to hold up to 1GB of text and images using single-layer writing visible under the microscope. The crystal was delivered five months in advance of the intended launch date.

UpLift selected 5D Memory Crystal™ technology to preserve Stories of Space for Astrobotic’s Griffin Mission One lunar landing, launching July 2026.
